Norton Personal Firewall

  Installing Incredible Charts

When you install Incredible Charts, your firewall should alert you that the new software is attempting to connect to the Internet.

Select Always allow connections from this program on all ports from the list of options.
Otherwise you are likely to block communication between Incredible Charts and the server.

  Fixing an Existing Firewall Block

If your firewall prevents Incredible Charts from connecting to the server:

1. From the Start button, select All Programs >> Norton Internet Security 
2. Select Personal Firewall from the center panel 
   (if that is not available, you may need to select Norton Personal Firewall >> Status & Settings on the left).
3. Click the Configure button (bottom right).

4. Select the Programs tab
5. Under Manual Program Control, scroll down the list until you find Incrediblecharts.exe.
   (If you cannot find Incredible Charts, select a different network setting -- in the box next to Settings for -- and scroll through the list again until you find it. The most likely network setting is Home or Office. Later versions of Norton Firewall do not have a separate box for network settings -- categories are shown in the Program Control box -- and can ignore this.)

6. Select Incrediblecharts.exe on the list, then click the Modify button.
7. Change the Internet Access to Permit All
   (If you are using a later version of Norton, select the General category).
8. Click OK
9. Then restart Incredible Charts.

  Incredible Charts Updates

Members who use Norton Personal Firewall are also likely to be prompted whenever there is an automatic update of Incredible Charts.

Select Always allow connections from this program on all ports from the list of options.
Otherwise you are likely to block all communication between Incredible Charts and the server.

  Automatic Program Control (recommended)

If your firewall does not display an alert, we recommend that you enable Automatic Program Control so that Norton will prompt you (to create firewall permission) whenever you install new software on your computer. Incredible Charts regularly does live updates and it will be necessary to adjust your firewall settings whenever this occurs.

To enable Automatic Program Control:

1. Go to Norton Personal Firewall 2004, select Status & Settings on the left.
2. Highlight Personal Firewall in the center panel.
3. Press the Configure button (bottom right).

4. Select the Programs tab.
5. Under Settings for, select the location you want to customize
6. Check the box next to Turn on Automatic Program Control
7. Click OK.

  Disabling Norton Personal Firewall

If you cannot create firewall permission when installing Incredible Charts, you may need to temporarily disable the firewall in order to complete the installation:

1. From the Start button, select All Programs >> Norton Internet Security 
2. Select Personal Firewall from the center panel 
   (if that is not available, you may need to select Norton Personal Firewall >> Status & Settings on the left).
3. Click the Turn Off button on the right.

 

• Remember to turn the firewall back on after you have completed the installation;
• Clear existing firewall blocks; and then
• Restart Incredible Charts and create permission at the firewall prompts.
