Display Part-Periods

To display values for incomplete periods (e.g. an incomplete hour or week), select View >> Incomplete Periods >> Price / Volume >> Display or Shade.

To display indicators for incomplete periods, select View >> Incomplete Periods >> Other Indicators >> Display.

Bars for incomplete periods are positioned at the end of the period.

Example

If you chose to Display the incomplete periods, a daily price chart will start a new bar to represent trading on that day. The bar dimensions will change throughout the day, as more data becomes available. This will continue until the market close when the period is completed.

Similarly, an indicator based on weekly periods, such as the 30-week weighted moving average or the weekly MACD, will show a line for the part of the week completed. This line will vary as the week progresses until finalized on Friday.

Warning

Traders who take signals from weekly or monthly indicators need to exercise caution: signal crossovers that appear during the part-period may disappear on completion of the period, as more data is added.

Hide Part-Periods

To display only completed periods, select View >> Incomplete Periods >> Price / Volume >> Hide.

To hide indicators for incomplete periods, select View >> Incomplete Periods >> Other Indicators >> Hide.
