Troubleshooting

Incredible Charts Abruptly Closes

Low Resources

If the application abruptly closes after displaying a "Low Resources" or "Low Memory" error,
restart your computer to correct this.

Sometimes the computer may have insufficient resources to even display an error message.
Again, restarting the computer should correct the problem.

Windows Resources

Windows 98 and Windows ME have a fixed amount of resources.
Windows 2000 and Windows XP can increase the resources available using available memory ( RAM ).

Windows 98 or Windows ME

If you receive low resource error messages:

  1. Reboot your computer to make sure you have a fresh start or, if you have rebooted, close down unnecessary applications which are open. This includes closing down unnecessary applications which run permanently and are displayed as icons in the right corner of your Windows Start Bar ( to the left of your computer clock )
  2. Unload all exchanges except one, using Securities >> Remove Autoload of> Remove Autoload of Remove Autoload of ...
  3. Thereafter, only load one exchange at a time;
  4. If you still receive low resource error messages, upgrade to Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

Clicking the "Securities" menu shuts down Incredible Charts

The most likely cause is that your operating system is choking when a stock exchange menu is loading.

  1. When you next start Incredible Charts, check your View >> Advanced Options >> Set Menu Length setting before clicking the Securities menu.
    • Try a setting of 200 for Windows 2000 and Windows XP since these operating systems prefer to load more items on a menu.
    • Try a setting of 50 for Windows 98 and Windows ME since these operating systems prefer to load less items on a menu.

If the problem continues then it is a resources issue. The operating system is unable to allocate resources to load all the exchanges which IncredibleCharts is attempting to load automatically at startup:

  1. IncredibleCharts will now automatically remove the exchanges which are autoloaded at startup upon detecting a resources problem which forces it to close.
    • Restart IncredibleCharts immediately after it has abruptly closed.
    • If you are prompted to choose an exchange then IncredibleCharts has corrected the resources issue. Only load the exchanges you need.
  2. If the problem continues, you will need to remove the exchanges manually. Search for a subfolder named equities within the IncredibleCharts subfolders.
    • The equities folder is a subfolder within the IncredibleCharts subfolders.
    • The best way to find this folder would be to use Windows>>Start>>Search For files and Folders and to search on equities within the incredible>Start>>Search For files and Folders and to search on equities within the incrediblecStart>>Search For files and Folders and to search on equities within the incrediblecharts >Search For files and Folders and to search on equities within the incrediblecharts fSearch For files and Folders and to search on equities within the IncredibleCharts folder and subfolders.
  3. Delete the empty files found in that folder.
  4. Start IncredibleCharts - no exchanges will now be loaded.
  5. Only load the exchanges you need.

Windows XP: Compatibility incorrectly set

A user reported the following problem after installing Incredible Charts on Windows XP. When they attempted to run Incredible Charts, the egg-timer displayed for a few seconds and then disappeared, with no charts visible.

While checking their settings they discovered that the compatibility option was set to Windows 95.

If you experience a similar problem:

  1. Go to C:>>Program Files>>IncredibleCharts
  2. Right-click on IncredibleCharts.exe
  3. Select Properties>>Compatibility : is the Compatibility box checked?
  4. If so, please un-check the box, so that the Compatibility options are grayed out,
then click the Apply button and OK.
